The exact Substack Notes strategy that brought me 79 subscribers in one week. These 6 'People Like Us' note types attract the right readers and repel the wrong ones — no viral moments required
This furthers what we were talking about yesterday. There is a crowd of people who feel the same way as you about a lot of things. Frustrations, irritations, and absurdities.
Talk about those and they’ll find you. People don’t want to be talked at. They want to relate.
Tracy, thank you for writing this article. I love this framework as really what matters is finding your people and not trying to appeal to anyone.
Plus, I've had people tell me that you need to do this or that which is not who I am, not what I like, or not what I stand by, as I have over 30 years of experience building enterprise data and AI solutions. I've been very frustrated being told you should do this as it goes against everything that I stand for.
These gimmicky notes and articles on AI are not who I am about and not who I am trying to serve and help. I want to help leaders on their AI transformation journey in their companies and do meaningful work to inform, educate and bring together a community of innovators online and offline.
I like this post a lot, Tracy, because you named the right thing. I know some things will need to be automated and repurposed, but I’m not letting my Notes go that way, I’m actually having fun writing them in the moment. And I get that the way I write them isn’t for everyone, and I’m okay with it.
This really resonated with me. Funny timing too, as I just wrote a piece on exactly this. Why finding my people will likely require time and patience, and why I’m learning to be okay with that. Your reflections on belonging, showing up without guarantees, and staying playful with the work touched on lots of what I too have been noodling on. Thank you for putting it into words so generously.
Really enjoyed this piece, glad you showed up on my feed too. Thanks for sharing, will be using your framework too. I've got a call with a tutee in a few mins so will come back to this later and apply it. Curious to see what happens :)
Really loved this line ''People like us? We find each other. We always do.''
Thank God. I thought I was doing something wrong - but I already do this to some degree.
Time to ratchet it up...

79 subs in a week??? You are amazing! I love this framework AND I love that you sat down to figure out what the framework could be.
This is why you are growing so fast. You are acting instead of reacting.
